Spring being upon us presents us with the ideal chance to refresh our homes and to ensure they're ready for summer

But what are the trends we should be considering? Well, the Etsy Trend Guide explains all.

It doesn't matter whether you're looking to shake up your space or need to give your home a complete revamp - these are the trends you need to know about...

It's been sneaking back into fashion recently, but with over 267,000 searches on Etsy over the past three months, and it's time to accept tie-dye has become the latest '70s trend to make a return to home decor.

The standout pattern has been appearing on everything, from bedding to mirrors. However, there's a marked difference with the more modern tie-dye pieces, as there's now a more sophisticated feeling to them, thanks to the lighter hues and pastels that are used, creating a more muted piece.

One of 2019's major focuses is self-care - it's top of the itinerary for many of us - so it's not surprising that crystal-inspired decor is also enjoying a moment in the spotlight too.

Etsy has seen 63,000 searches for 'crystals' within the home and living category over the last three months, as sellers have started to reimagine the trend with a unique take, by adding crystals to accessories like serving utensils. It's eye-catching pieces like this are capable of transforming your home into a wellness haven, providing a subtle reminder to slow down and take a breath.

Artistic license

There have been more than 2.4 million searches for 'art deco' on Etsy in the last three months. It's therefore safe to assume that the 19th-century style is now back in - and its better than ever. We're seeing mid-century modern designs making way for more glam resurgences, as shoppers achieve their look by adding some luxe textures (any excuse to welcome back velvet...), geometric patterns, and some pops of metallics in their homes.

Wallpaper isn't only for the walls

Who says wallpaper is just for walls? This year, it's being used in increasingly creative ways, including adding pops of colour or pattern to staircases, dressers and cabinets. The past three months have seen a 385 per cent increase in searches for 'peel stick wallpaper' on Etsy compared to the same period the year before, while over 15,000 searches have been made for 'floor decals' and over 19,000 searches for 'stair decals'.

It's also coming into our bathrooms and kitchens, with ‘tile decal’ is rising.

There has been a huge 89 per cent increase in Etsy searches for 'stick tiles' over the past three months' too. The added bonus here is that temporary wallpaper means you can change the colour or pattern down the line if you get fed up or fancy a change - win-win!

Cut out shapes

There's a new pattern trend coming into our homes - hello cut-out shapes! Etsy has reported over 127,000 searches for 'abstract prints' were made in the past three months alone, with the puzzle-like print incorporating both geometric and abstract elements. It gives you the ultimate combination of maximalism and modernism within any space.

Animal vibes

Etsy has dubbed 2019 the year of 'being real', and subsequently, as much as we love unicorns and mermaids, it's time to move them to one side and welcome in some real-life animals. This was initially seen by the growth in popularity of the sloth, but now, it includes everything from jungle cats to parrots. Etsy has reported over 602,000 searches for 'tiger' while over 280,000 searches have been made for 'animal print' in the past three months. Now, the animal kingdom is enjoying its moment, with everything from spotted prints to full-on figures taking up residence in our homes. Don't be afraid to go wild - instead, pile on multiple patterns and motifs - this is the year where more is definitely more.
