Make it Monday: upcycle your garden pots

Are you looking for a quick and easy way to give your garden an injection of colour?

Well, a quick and easy method is to look into colour blocking with paint and masking tape. Colour blocking is the perfect way to add a splash of colour or pattern to your patio, without having to invest in new and expensive pots.

Here, FrogTape talk us through the process of creating your own snazzy pots...

1 Prepare the pots for painting by cleaning them.

2 Sand them with a gentle sandpaper to make sure the pot's surface is smooth.

3 Refinish this with a gel stain or your base paint colour, using outdoor paint (a light colour will normally work the best as a base).

4 Use FrogTape Delicate Surface Painter's Masking Tape to mask out your design. Make sure you press and rub the edge of the tape to get a good seal - the Delicate surface tape ensures you won't remove any previous coats. Ensure that each coat is completely dry and cured before masking and painting a second coat.

5 Paint the shapes, stripes and patterns you choose with your other colours - use a flat artist's brush. Allow the first coat to completely dry and then lightly sand it. Wipe away the sanding dust with a lint-free cloth before you add a second coat.

6 Remove the tape, then when the paint is dry, seal with two coats of a clear water-based topcoat.
