'We did all the work in eight weeks'

Despite a tight budget and limited time, Gemma Northam has turned her dated ex-council house by the sea into a vibrant home

A bit about me

I’m Gemma Northam, a teaching assistant and artist. I live with my husband, David, our two children, plus dog Effie and cat Elsa.

Where I live

We live in a four-bedroom ex-council house in Margate.

What I wanted to change

Everything! We purchased the house in November 2017 and it was in need of a full refurbishment, from top to bottom.

How I made it my own

After it was plastered we painted the walls white and I used this as an opportunity to add colour and pattern with artwork, prints and furnishings.

My favourite part

The kitchen-diner as it’s such a warm and welcoming space to cook and entertain family and friends. It’s a space that we spend a lot of our time in.

You can find out more about Gemma's renovation by purchasing our May 2019 issue, available as a digital download for only £1.99 here.
