Sleeping in a dated bedroom, Julie Doyle decided enough was enough and set about designing her dream room
A bit about me
I’m Julie Doyle, and I live with my husband Richard, our daughter, and dog Archie in a detached four-bedroom home in Orpington, Kent.
My problem bedroom
The built-in bedroom furniture was dated and impractical. Everything was inherited from the previous owners and because of the shape and lack of funds this was the last room on our makeover schedule.
How I made it work
I liked the idea of turning the alcove into a small walk-in wardrobe area. I also decided to make the most of the en suite and introduce statement flooring. We called in a local building company Edwards Building & Glazing to do the bathroom as Richard and I wanted the work done quickly and professionally. We painted and wallpapered ourselves.
My favourite part
I love the wallpaper, we’ve had several comments that it must be a real wood panelled wall. I also adore my little dressing table too, it’s the perfect place to get ready and the bathroom flooring was a brilliant find – it really packs a punch!
