Neutral colours are becoming increasingly popular in children's bedrooms, a survey conducted by Houzz and Airbnb has revealed

It seems neutral tones are on the rise, with parents looking to create gender-neutral bedrooms, as they provide a canvas for inspirational or educational decor, it is believed.

The research found white is the most popular colour for a kid's bedroom, with 49 per cent of parents saying it's the dominant shade in their child's room. This saw it edge out blue (42 per cent), grey (35 per cent) and pink (24 per cent).

Nearly two thirds (61 per cent) of parents on the Houzz platform would embrace a themed look in their child's bedroom, with nearly a quarter (23 per cent) pointing to inspirational or educational décor being a key priority when it comes to designing their child's room. Both animal and nature-themed rooms will be the most popular (30 per cent and 23 per cent), perhaps influenced by Prince George's safari-themed bedroom.

It was also found that over a quarter of parents (29 per cent) would allow their young children to decorate their own rooms.

The study was conducted to reveal the latest nursery trends ahead of the birth of the third royal child.
