Making a statement with wallpaper

If you're looking to make a statement with your wallpaper, we have just the tips for you

1. Start at a corner and hang your first length of paper on a wall with no doors or windows. That way, you will be able to hang a full length from the ceiling to the top of the skirting-board.

2. When you're hanging paper, you should remember walls and corners are rarely straight - don't rely on them to guide you.

3. Opt for a wall to the right of the window if you're right-handed or vice versa. Think about working away from the window, as this will mean the paper edges don't cast a shadow if they happen to overlap slightly.

4. Don't hang narrow strips against a window or door. Alternatively cut the first length in half vertically along the edge to overlap the cornet.

5. If your wallpaper happens to have a large pattern, you should hang the first length over a focal point in your room - for instance, a fireplace. Then, work away from it in both directions to give you a symmetrical design.
