It's tricky to know exactly how you should decorate a long room, especially if you want a big space to feel homely. However, there's always a way around it
1. The first thing to consider is a rug. Placed at one end of the room with furniture around it, it can visually draw in the eye and create the impression of a set area.
2. Divide the space with colour. Contrasting shades can create a different zone, while complementary hues can be used to create a more balanced effect.
3. A piece of furniture - for instance an L-shaped sofa, daybed, shelving unit or sideboard - can be used to mark the separation between areas. Low-level furniture is ideal as you can easily see over it to the other part of the room.
4. To block off one part of your room from the other, use a decorative screen. This will not only keep your area feeling more private and intimate, but can create the feeling of a cosier room.
