Four ways to add character to a new-build

Is your new-build in need of some character? Then good news! It's not as tough to achieve as you may think...

1. In a new-build, it's all about texture. They're renowned for having smooth and seamless surfaces - therefore, try adding raw materials, such as brick, wood and wool.

2. A fireplace is a great way to instantly making a room seem more welcoming. If you need the materials, you can shop for them at a local reclamation yard. And also, come the colder months, you'll be able to curl up in front of a fire - sounds good to us!

3. You should mix and match furnishings to give your home an eclectic feel. High street furniture can sometimes just look that bit too polished, especially if bought in sets. It's therefore worth teaming up a shop-bought piece with a charity shop buy and so on.

4. You should customise your space with your favourite photos and works of art. Nothing brings a home to life like adding some personality. For instance, how about a souvenir that makes you smile when you see it?
