Make easy concrete planters

Posted 12th Dec 2016

Cacti and concrete are two super-hot trends. Working with concrete doesn't have to be scary though, with this easy DIY. With just a few supplies, you can create a trendy accessory ready to pop in your favourite plants.

You will need

1 tub of You-Can High Strength Concrete Repair Mortar
Measuring jug
Pebbles (for weights)
Disposable plastic cup
Plastic container
Scissors
Protective glasses
Apron
Rubber gloves

Directions

1 Empty the contents of the high strength concrete sachet into the tub.

2 Fill a jug with 270ml (1/2 pint) of clean water. Pour all of the water into the tub and mix.

3 Continue to stir until you get a thick consistency.

4 Put small amounts of the mixed mortar into a plastic container.

5 Gently shake to encourage the mortar to disperse evenly into all corners and smooth the surface.

6 Once the box is three quarters full, push plastic cups into the mortar, ensuring that the cups don't touch the bottom of the container.

7 Use pebbles to weigh down the cups and leave for at least 24 hours to set.

8 Once set, remove the cups and outer container. Leave for a further 24 hours.

9 When thoroughly dry, decorate your pot with acrylic or outdoor paint. Apply a coat of varnish if desired.
