Everyone wants their room to be a haven of relaxation, a place you can make completely your own. But sometimes life gets in the way and you never quite get round to making your bedroom as homely and comfortable as you would like
So we have rounded our top 5 easy tips to personalising your bedroom and making it your own...
1 Photographs, photographs, photographs!
You cannot get something more personal than a photograph, especially one that has sentimental value. It is important to choose one that makes you smile everytime you see it - you don't want a picture that brings you down in a space that is meant to be relaxing. Buy some nice frames and put the photographs in places that you will see them regularly. This could be your bedside table, your dressing table or if you have the space, you could even create a mini feature wall with a whole collection of meaningful photographs. The possibilities are endless!
Lighting can make a huge difference to the feel of a room - bright lights can be harsh and cold. So we recommend lamps. With one lamp on either side of the bed as well as the ceiling light, you can have it as dark or as light as you could possibly desire and you'll have task lighting down to a T. Additionally, getting a dimmer switch fitted for the main light would also be a good solution!
There is nothing quite like walking into a room that is lit by candles, especially if they are nicely scented, it instantly creates a sense of relaxation which is exactly what we want. Some candles can be ridiculously over priced, however we find Ikea candles smell amazing and they are super budget friendly!
4 Comfortable bed
To us a comfortable bed is a must. Your bed should be somewhere you can get your head down when you need to and not wake up the next day feeling worse than you did before. It needs to be somewhere you look forward to getting into and not dread. So our advice is to invest in a comfortable mattress! To make yourself feel better about the payout think about the amount of time you spend in bed, and how many years it will be before you need to buy a new one and then its cost-per-use should be next to nothing. You'll thank us later.
Flowers instantly make any room that touch more homely, it's a fact of life. However, having real flowers in your room may be a little too much upkeep so we suggest opting for fake flowers. There are some amazing ones out there that look almost identical to the real thing just minus that 'are they or aren't they dead' dilemma every couple of weeks.
