'The only advice I can give is to be yourself'

We chat to July cover star Yasmin Fatollahy to find out about her experience with HomeStyle.

What was it like having your home photographed for HomeStyle?

As soon as I was approached by HomeStyle I was super excited, as it’s an amazing opportunity and a great achievement. You dream about being in a magazine, but to be asked to be in one and to be on the front cover is just incredible! I love styling up my home, so having it photographed by HomeStylewas an amazing experience.

What was your favourite part of having your home photographed for HomeStyle

I got to see the effort that goes into creating content for the magazine, and I met some very talented people. Overall the whole experience was fantastic and it’s a great opportunity for anyone to have. I would do it all over again if I could.

How did you prepare for the shoot?

I cleaned absolutely everything, about three times over and I still felt like I hadn’t done enough! It wasn’t until the photographer knocked on the door that I actually stopped preparing and felt relaxed.

Did you learn anything from the photographer?

It was amazing working alongside the photographer. The amount of thought and effort behind a single shot is incredible. It opened my eyes massively to how hard the photographer works. From capturing light correctly, to styling and small fine details, everything was a well thought out process. I even had the chance to have a play around on the photographer’s laptop and worked alongside her to style up the rooms.

What advice would you give to future HomeStyle cover stars?

The only advice I can give is to be yourself. Your home is your blank canvas to create something amazing that you enjoy living in. If you’re proud of what you have created, then that is the best feeling in my eyes.
