Using some clever tricks and creative changes, Britt Ellice was able to transform an uninspiring new-build kitchen into a beautiful and unique family space
A bit about me
Hi, I’m Britt Ellice and I live with my husband Mark and our daughter in a four-bedroom townhouse on the Essex / Hertfordshire border.
My problem kitchen
We bought our house in 2009 as a new-build and were hugely disappointed to find it was fitted with a kitchen that we hated. Our dilemma was how to make it work for us without spending a fortune or ripping out something that was brand new.
How I made it work
I created a moodboard of the kitchen I wanted, and then used some upcycling tricks and made a few changes to help transform it from a dated and oppressing space to a vibrant, modern room inspired by nature.
My favourite part
I love the subtle scalloped-effect on the off-black kitchen cupboard doors which makes me think of waves on the sea. It conjures up happy memories of time spent with my family and friends by the beach in South Carolina.
