A simple guide to transforming a terracotta pot

Posted 29th April

With summer edging ever closer, it will soon be the time to make the most of our outdoor spaces and with it, enjoy a barbecue or two (or eight)

If you're looking for a way to make a truly unique garden this summer, we have just the tutorial for you to give your home a spot of personalisation.

This project explains how you can add a lick of paint to some terracotta pots and etch on a design, giving you unique garden features...

You will need:

Rotary tool like the Dremel 8220 or the Stylo+
High speed cutter (191 bit)
Terracotta pots
Paint and paint supplies
A pencil

Directions

1. Apply a thick layer of paint to the pot and leave to dry completely.

2. Draw your desired design onto the pot using a pencil.

3. Use clamps or another practical way to secure and support the workpiece to a stable platform. Etch over your pencil design using a Dremel rotary tool like the 8220 or the Stylo+ with an engraving accessory like the 191 bit. Experiment making light marks over the design to adjust the width of your line.

4. Pot some plants, add some pretty stones or even decorate with solar lights inside then sit back in the garden and enjoy!
