Changing trends: one third of Brits plan a flexitarian Easter

The growing popularity of vegetarianism is showing no signs of slowing down

Nowhere is this more apparent than in our eating plans this Easter.

This is a period that was once synonymous with roast lamb yet Brits are starting to move towards a new dish, with a survey from One Poll revealing an increasing number of Brits are looking forward to enjoying a planet-friendly Easter dish this year. In fact, the study found just under one-third (30 per cent) of Brits are going to have at least one meatless meal over the Easter period.

The survey of 1,000 people, carried out by One Poll on behalf of The Meatless Farm Co. found there's an increasing amount of us turning towards the flexitarian diet. This is, in part, driven by the increased awareness and education into the impact eating meat can have on both our health and the environment.

Commenting on the survey, Rob Woodall, CEO of The Meatless Farm Co. said: "Being mindful of how we live and eat has become a priority in today’s world and the numbers reveal a huge shift towards plant-based eating in the UK, with one in eight people now identifying as vegetarian or vegan. Small changes can have a big impact and it’s great to see that so many meat eating Brits are taking action. If people switched just one meal a week to meatless, they could make a big difference. But there must be tasty, familiar alternatives."

He added: "Plant-based diets are currently very topical, however for many people it isn’t a fad or about giving up meat altogether, it’s about finding a balance that is healthy, tasty and good for the planet."
