4 tips to consider when you're planning an extension

Posted 10th April

Love the home you’re in by considering an extension

1. Adding a ground floor extension to any home can be the most cost-effective way of adding space and value, as well as being the best way to get exactly what you want in a home you love and don’t want to leave.

2. Check out if you need planning permission, small single-story extensions under certain sizes and styles won’t need permission but do check it out with your local planning council to be sure especially if you live in a conservation area.

3. You’ll definitely need an architect to draw up plans but be as involved as you can. Be realistic and clear about what you want, and sympathetic to the style of your property.

4. Allow for hidden costs; large extensions will always cost more than you initially plan for, and changing plans along the way can often increase budgets. Employ a team of builders you trust and get recommendations first.
