As spring takes over, many of us will be carrying out the big clean to freshen up our interiors
It's a thorough clean, yet sometimes, you can end up with dirt and grime in the most unexpected of places that you wouldn't even think about normally.
That's where this guide from Airtasker comes in - they're sharing some of the commonly overlooked items we should really be paying more attention to...
1. Remote Controls, Switches and Handles
Think about the items you'll be coming into contact with every day - the door handles, kitchen cabinets, light switches and TV remotes. These are all going to be germ and dirt magnets.
Give each item a clean with a cloth and disinfectant. When it comes to the TV remote, remove the batteries and use a cotton bud with disinfectant to rub the buttons too. Then wipe the rest of the remote with a lint-free cloth.
2. Sleep clean
Make sure you don’t overlook the mattress - after all, you'll be spending eight hours on it each night.
Once the bed has been stripped of your sheets, clean the dust off the mattress with your vacuum. Then, mix baking soda with a few drops of essential oil, like lavender. Sprinkle the soda over the mattress with a kitchen strainer and then leave it for an hour. To finish off, give it a vacuum with the hose attachment.
3. House plants
These can get dusty too! For any larger plants, give the leaves a wipe with a damp cloth - ensure you cradle each leaf, so you don't bruise or crack them. With smaller plants, fill the sink with lukewarm water, then, supporting them and the soil with your fingers, turn them upside down and give the leaves a gentle swish in the water.
4. Extract the fan
A fan above your hob can end up greasy and blocked – however, there's a good way to get around this – clean it! Get a large stainless-steel pot, boil some water, and then gradually add baking soda (stop when it starts fizzing). Next, carefully using tongs, add the filters into the pot, and leave them for 5 minutes, before removing and setting them aside. Then, wipe them clean, before adding them back into the fan.
5. Exterior vibes
Make sure you remember your garden - it needs some love too. Using a power hose, you can remove mildew and marks on your home and patio. Ensure you check your gutters for leaves too – get rid of any that could have built up over the cooler months.
6. Cleaning equipment
After you've carried out your spring clean, don't forget to give your equipment some TLC. After they've been used to reach every nook and cranny, it's crucial to eliminate the germs that could have collected too. This also has the bonus of leaving them fresh the next time you go to use them too.
