Struggling for a date? Your interiors could be why...

Singletons, you may want to read on - these are the interior turn offs that could be stopping you from getting a second date...

A survey of 2,000 Brits, commissioned by Dunelm, has highlighted just how much our homes will impact potential romance - and it seems many interiors are failing to set pulses racing.

Revealing the best and worst things that Brits have seen when visiting a date's home, it seems some of us are (unsurprisingly) not finding dirty bathrooms and filthy kitchens to be the most romantic of settings, with outdated decor also proved unpopular.

In comparison, it's probably not a surprise to learn that a clean and tidy home, full of quirky objects, proved to be more of an interiors 'turn on', while a well-stocked fridge and pictures of loved ones (excluding the ex...) also ranked highly.

64 per cent of those surveyed said they would consider a home to be a good indicator of character, while more than 60 per cent think the bedroom reveals a lot about someone's character.

And, if ever there was a reason to think about your interior, it was found that first impressions do make a difference, with some admitting they would dump their date after seeing their home.

The research was done as a part of Dunelm's new show Back to Mine, which airs on Sunday afternoons - the show's voice star, Rochelle Humes, said: "Just like a first date, first impressions of your home count, so it’s worth ensuring your home is the very best reflection of yourself. Seeing how these unique homes on the show have been transformed but still with the individuals' personalities shining through has been really impressive and given me some inspiration myself!"

The seven biggest interior turn offs were:

- No bathroom - just a bucket

- Filthy bathroom

- Dirty kitchen

- Outdated decor and fittings

- Action figures

- Mis-matched furniture

- Photos of ex-partners

The seven biggest interior turn-ons are:

- Clean and tidy rooms

- Character and quirks

- Interesting objects

- Clean bedding

- Nice garden space

- Photos of family / friends

- A well-stocked kitchen
