Answered: three of the most common kitchen questions

With the kitchen being increasingly viewed as the heart of the home, it’s never been more important to make sure they are working at full efficiency

We talk to Joanne Emery, the Marketing Manager at Burbidge, to find out some of the answers to the most common kitchen questions...

1. Which design is best suited to a busy kitchen?

Aim for the most fuss-free option - for instance, slab style doors. Thanks to their linear design, they offer both style and extreme easiness when it comes to cleaning. Opting for true handle-less doors and units also gives you a blank canvas that you can then add definition to by choosing an interesting colour and texture. Selecting quality materials means you get a tough, hard wearing surface that is not be damaged by everyday bumps and spills.

2. How do I make the most of my kitchen space?

Storage plays a vital part in kitchen design - you should think about what your integrated cabinets provide and what you need in addition to this. A free-standing kitchen unit is a popular choice because it’s both stylish and practical. Both islands and breakfast bars not only offer additional storage, but also give you extra workspace, so you can maximise the usability of the space. You can also consider open shelving or wall racks for items that you are likely to need quick access to.

3. What would your one piece of advice be?

Planning is essential - take your time at the initial stages so you can consider exactly what you need from your kitchen, along with the overall functionality of the room. Think about the ways the household currently interacts with the space and whether you will have any limitations in terms of layout and budget. This not only saves you time and keeps the costs down, but also minimises the need for any last minute, expensive alterations.
