Four ways to add personality to a rental

Four ways to add personality to a rental

If you're renting and are struggling to add some personality to your property, don't worry! A few simple techniques will set you on your way

1 Some landlords allow their walls to be painted a different colour - however, you'll want to check with them first before you splash out on emulsion. When you move out, the walls can be painted back to their original colour, so it shouldn't be a problem.

2 Why not give old or budget furniture some personality with paint? You can even add a pattern with a stencil or by masking off areas with tape.

3 You may not be able to change the position of lighting – you can get around this by investing in lamps, floor lights and add statement pendants to create mood lighting and your own sense of style.

4 If you can't wallpaper, try framing your favourite designs - get samples and display them in mismatched frames which you can find in charity shops and at car boot sales. Why not give trendy hanging frames a go?
