Making your own headboard

Making your own headboard

Posted 1st Mar 2018

Are you looking for a great way to personalise your bedroom and save some money? Then why not try making your own headboard?

1. Beds can be pricey, so a DIY headboard teamed with a divan base could save you hundreds of pounds. Plywood shapes can be cut at a timber yard, covered in foam or wadding and finished with your chosen fabric for a bespoke luxury hotel look.

2. Tiling a rectangular panel directly onto the wall behind your bed is a great way to create visual impact. Alternatively, mark out a three-sided shape with beading, then wallpaper the inside.

3. Why not try mounting wood panelling for a grand feel, or go rustic by fixing an old door to the wall instead? You could use a simple wax finish, give it a weatherbeaten coastal look with whitewashing or paint it in a bold, bright accent colour to really pop.

4. If you’re on a tight budget, consider transforming an existing headboard with new fabric or buy a cheap secondhand one to reupholster or revamp with paint.
