With most of their money spent renovating their dilapidated house, vintage lover Leanne Pearce saved a bundle buying second-hand
A bit about me
I’m Leanne Pearce and I live with my partner Gareth and our children, Josephine and Boadicea, in a five-bed Victorian terrace in Gateshead.
My problem bedroom
Although it was a lovely large space, the room was in a state of disrepair with a big hole in the ceiling and was full of the previous owner’s furniture. With yellow walls and an ugly 1950s fireplace, it needed a major makeover to bring some much needed elegance.
How I made it work
After stripping everything back and revealing an original Victorian fireplace, we were able to start again with a neutral grey backdrop plus dusky pink, blue and gold accents. The single bedroom next door was turned into an en-suite, and we had sliding wardrobes installed across the adjoining wall with a hidden entrance in the middle.
My favourite part
I love the picture of the lady above the fireplace, which I found at a car boot sale, as I think the colours and the subject matter are stunning. Gareth always jokes that I go for sombre paintings. It’s definitely the best £1 I’ve ever spent!
