Fashion is Cynthia Hungwe’s passion and the inspiration behind her bedroom makeover, which has been transformed on a minuscule budget with tons of creativity and oodles of style

A bit about me

Hi, I’m Cynthia Hungwe, and I live in a one-bed apartment in Central Edinburgh. I’m an interior designer, and I run a popular lifestyle blog called Skittlis Fashion.

My problem bedroom

The décor was completely neutral when I acquired the apartment, which is not my style at all. I wanted to add individuality, personality and fun, as well as showcase my design work for potential clients.

How I made it work

I have used a bold, dark colour as a backdrop and added graphic prints in monochrome tones to bring depth and character to the room. I have stuck to a tight budget by bargain-hunting in charity stores and junk shops (one of my favourite hobbies), but splurged a little on the artwork to add character to the space, and make it as personal to me as possible.

My favourite part

I love the room as a whole; I think it’s really representative of who I am, but I adore the collection of vintage hats that I used to jazz up the bare wall. They make me smile, and remind me of happy memories, such as the times I wore them to Ladies Days’ at the races – good times!
