Embracing the retro look

Embracing the retro look

Retro fans - we have three simple tips that will help you achieve the classic look in your home

1 If you're after a classic 1970s colour scheme, you can't beat a combination of oranges, browns, greens and yellows. If you're unwilling to go the whole hog, consider opting for three neutral walls and one feature wall, which can then incorporate bold geometric wallpaper or alternatively, slate or cork tiles.

2 While second-hand teak furniture from the likes of G-Plan and Ercol may have risen in cost in recent years, you can still find a bargain on eBay, Gumtree and Facebook selling pages. You should also think about making regular trips to charity shops. Alternatively, you can always try giving an existing piece of furniture a retro makeover by adding hairpin or dansette legs.

3 A key element of retro style is bold statement lighting. Keep your eyes peeled for lamp bases which are made from curvy coloured glass, arc style floor lamps in chrome and over-sized globe pendants.
