Animals in interiors are all the rage this season. They're the perfect way to inject a little quirkiness into your décor and guarantee to bring a smile to the face of every visitor who passes through your home.

We all know that exotic interiors have been hot in the design world for a while now, but we've also noticed a trend arising for animals that are a little closer to home. Native species like badgers, owls and garden birds are hot on the heels of those of the more tropical variety. Step aside zebras!

What's more, we've also seen pooches popping up everywhere. Recent research conducted by the lovely people from the Affordable Art Fair has revealed that 56% of dog owners now incorporate four-legged friends into their home décor.

As a nation of pet lovers (and because it's National Pet Month) we think that now is a great time to embrace our furry friends as a source of inspiration for our homes. With 44% of dog owners admitting to taking more pictures of their dog than any other family member, a pet portrait may be the perfect piece to add personality to your walls. At the upcoming Affordable Art Fair (Hampstead, 11th-14th May), renowned dog-portrait photographer Alma Haser will be bringing down her unique dog photobooth and inviting visiting pooches to have their professional snap taken. Now that's an opportunity not to be sniffed at.

If you're not a pet owner and don't have a pooch who can pose for a portrait, don't fret, we've found a whole host of paw-fect homeware...
