Kris McGowan’s 60s rented flat is full of objects and accessories she’s found in rubbish skips, at car boot sales and on the high street

A bit about me

Hello, I’m Kris McGowan and I live in East Sussex with my husband Tommy and our son, Tom.

Where I live

My home is a 1960s flat in Eastbourne – also known as the sunshine coast. We’ve privately rented here for four years.

What I wanted to change

All the flats in the building are very dark, being surrounded by trees, so I wanted to create a light and bright space and show what you can do with a rental property.

How I made it my own

I painted the entire flat in pale shades and got rid of all the original window blinds which really opened up each of the rooms.

My favourite part

I love my living room as it feels so cosy and inviting. I probably have far too many cushions and throws, but I don’t care!

You can find out more about Kris and Tommy's rental flat by purchasing our October issue, available as a digital download for only £0.99 here.
