Making your home Insta famous: Rebecca Lawson

In our September issue top Insta stars reveal their secrets for curating the best feed around. Want to know more? We’ll be featuring extra tips from these styling pros right here. Today, we talk to Rebecca Lawson, of @malmo_and_moss

My Instagram story…

I randomly stumbled across Instagram when on maternity leave with my third son. The first pictures I posted were really heavily filtered and had weird borders on. But one day I posted a more natural shot of the kitchen with a funny caption about something that had happened in my day and it got loads of likes. From there my USP kind of became funny captions about my daily life combined with pictures of my Scandi/vintage inspired interiors.

My top tips…

1 Try and post whole room shots where you can instead of close ups as these seem to be more popular as people like to get an idea of how everything fits together.

2 Photos taken in natural light work better than those taken in artificial light. Candlelight looks great at home but doesn't translate well for Insta! Don't go too crazy with the filters either; people like to know what things really look like.

3 Kitchens and bathrooms seem to be especially popular so if you have a nice one post regular pics of it from different angles. My bathroom is probably responsible for more than half of my followers!

4 Join in with interiors hashtags as they are a great way of getting your pictures shared. I nearly did a cartwheel the first time one of my pictures was featured by #myhomevibe There are lots of great ones to join in with including #myhomevibe #styleithappy (which I started along with @comedowntothewoods and @thisstyle_rocks) #myhyggehome #sassyhomestyle and #howivintage

5 Like and comment on other accounts and be yourself so that you build up engagement and rapport with other interiors Instagram fans. I have met so many inspiring and lovely people on Instagram this way.
